At First Baptist Church East End, many lives have been touched and transformed since its conception in 1896! It was in that year while under the guidance and blessing of God, a small group of worshipers of Jesus of Nazareth gathered together under the leadership of Rev. Anthony Johnson of New Kent County to establish this church. They initially worshiped under a tree before moving to a house at Oak Avenue and 29th Street. On July 4, 1898 a wooden edifice was erected, and a brick building was completed in 1921.
In 1961, a Sunday night fire destroyed the building but could not scorch the unwavering faith of God’s people. Another edifice was purchased at 649 30th Street in 1963. The current building was constructed on May 6, 2007 with future plans to further expand the campus in order to provide more ministry and learning space.
We thank God for each disciple who has labored in this vineyard and placed his or her brick upon the rich history and living legacy of First Baptist Church East End. We are equally excited about what our future holds as we are reminded that “eyes have not seen, ears have not heard, nor has it entered the hearts, the things that God has prepared for them that love God…I Corinthians 2:9
